Patronising scheduling set the tournament up to fail but players such as Megan Rapinoe used their platform to highlight how the governing body has let them down Gianni Infantino is one of those intensely political people who believe that as far as everyone else is concerned, there is no place for politics in football. It was just last year at some grimly political press conference in Iran, naturally that the Fifa president announced: Its very clear that politics should stay out of football and football should stay out of politics. Is it? If so, the conclusion of the Womens World Cup on Sunday suggests it is time to ask Infantino how that ones working out for him. So much of …

England v Australia: 142 years of cricketing beef

Because although today’s match will be a one-day game, the intense rivalry has its roots in the history of Test cricket between the two sides. And it all started with a tiny pottery perfume jar. Ashes to Ashes Cricket has its roots in 16th Century England, but the first international matches were played in the late 1800s. USWNT crushed it — and their win sends a message

(CNN)By the time Sunday’s Women’s World Cup final came around, there was almost a sense of dj vu in the air. Some takeaways: 1. No, the rest of the world has not caught up to the USWNT. First of all, a handful of the world has been there all along, winning the other half of the titles — Japan (2011), Norway (1995), and Germany (2003, 2007). But even more importantly, take a look …
